Beau's Original Gaslight had Skye Galaxy performing the other night and it was an experiment for Skye. He had a new guitar setup and did not have time to really test it so he was “winging it”. It was also the first time Skye had performed playing the guitar instead of the piano so he thought it was going to be an “exciting and fun testing experience”.
Skye needn’t have worried as his setup worked flawlessly with his practice song “Head over Heels” by Tears for Fears. His voice a perfect blend with his instrument as he strode into his Cold Play set featuring “Shiver” and “Green Eyes” leading in to "I Will Follow You Into The Dark" by Death Cab for Cutie. Skye informed us that his song selection was different when playing the guitar than when performing on the piano. I have not heard him play the piano but you could tell he knew how to play the guitar. He occasionally interacted with the crowd but more so to encourage venue tips and also to apologize for his guitar strings going out of tune.
Skye did a unique version of “Come Together” by the Beatles. During this song he felt he was about to crash but as the true professional he his, continued playing. It turned out the problem corrected itself and he was able to continue with “How Soon Is Now” by the Smiths without any additional problems. Skye wanted everyone to sing along with him as he performed “Every Day is Exactly The Same” by Nine Inch Nails.
After performing the Who’s “Behind Blue Eyes”, Skye thanked the venue and the audience for supporting him in his guitar experiment before finishing his set with “Take a Picture” by Filter.
His experiment was a success and I for one can not wait for him to perfect it! That won’t be hard as it was an excellent show. I need to thank my dance partner for keeping track of the songs this evening. I hope to hear Skye again when he performs only on the piano and again in a mix of the two instruments. Check for a Skye Galaxy performance the next time you are in-world. I have been dying to say this: Skye Galaxy’s performance was out of the world! I wonder if that will get passed the editor. Ed Note: It Did.
