Leading off with “Then Dance” is a bold statement. Then again, Merrick Robonaught is not afraid to make such a statement. While I wouldn’t confuse it with the original, it was pleasurable and enjoyable. Following with “This Magic Moment” and you find out what Merrick is about. He’s a romantic, or at least you feel he is. His choice of songs sets a mood and you fall deeply swaying and dreaming of romantic moments in your life.
A Merrick Robonaught show is about the mood. He sets it for you and it’s up to you to find out what to do with it. “A Thousand Miles From Nowhere” is exactly where you feel you are during your time with him.
Merrick plays the guitar to accompany himself but uses backing tracks for the rest of the instruments and the background vocals. It’s a good mix. His voice is soothing and controlled. He mood is held with his voice and he does more than justice to the covers he performs. He makes Kenny Rogers appealing (okay, I’m not a KR fan) and does the same with every artist he conveys.
Merrick doesn’t grab you, rock you or attack you. He just kind of gives you the moment. The moment lasts an eternity. His is the kind of show you spend the night dancing with your man. Well if your man will. No matter what Merrick gives you, the mood is soothing and romantic. “The Thrill Is Gone” is one of the best I’ve heard in Second Life®.
And while Merrick has a romantic voice, his guitar follows the mood perfectly. He treats it like his lady and she responds seductively. He gently offers her his soul and his soul is on display for all. You offer your soul as well.
His country and blues filled show is worth hearing. The covers classic songs and with his guitar and deep seductive voice, keeps you entertained. With songs like “Time Marches On”, “Trashy Women” and “Walk Softy”, he ventures slightly away from romance and treats you to a bit of fun. And fun it is.
This night at THE POND, Merrick gave us all a little break from real life and let us dream of another life. Fun and romance are not paired too often but should be. Merrick pairs them for us and lets us enjoy the time.
“Walking In Memphis” is a favorite of mine and Merrick gave me a memorable rendition. I was relaxed, dreaming and entranced. You know the words to all the songs and the classics have you singing along with him. “The Wanderer”, “What’s Forever For”, "When The Sun Goes Down" and "When You Say Nothing At All" gives you the fun along with the romance and your night is complete. Don't miss his version "Wonderful Tonight". It's mesmorizing and the guitar is awesome. Take him in and make sure you bring a date.
Some men have bedroom eyes, Merrick has a bedroom voice and I think I need to find his CD to hear it more often.
