PM Bookmite has been away from Second Life® for a few months while touring in real life. This concert marked his return to performing in Second Life® and not something I wanted to miss. So I ventured over to Pixel Hill to see what he had in store to mark his return.
Taking his place at the piano, PM was ready to display his art and that’s what he did. First off, he’s a master at the piano making it soothe us or awaken us when needed. A strong and confident player, his piano is more than an accompaniment, it’s a partner. The keys are used to create his sound and it’s a sound that resonates in your head.
I don’t claim to know many of the songs he performed, he does do a lot of originals and since he didn’t offer us the titles, I could be wrong here. He opened with “Life Long Days”, “Tearing Your Wings Apart”, “Reason We’re Alive” and “Church Sunday”. Each was incredibly done. He has a strong voice that can clearly be heard that compliments the piano perfectly. His voice can be soft or forceful but on each song, his voice was unique suiting the song more than anything else.
When he introduced “I’m Sorry” (yes finally lol), we were in for a treat. It is self penned and the song is an apology (I’m not sure to whom) and is extremely memorable. It’s the kind of song we all have in our head from time to time. Makes me wish I had written it (or that someone wrote it for me). He continued with another sad sad song “Our Last Drive” before changing the tempo.
Pixel Hill or more appropriately The Jester is on a mainland sim with a well, medieval feel to it. With wooden floors, tables and stage, it transforms you in time and is a fun place to hang out and catch some great entertainment.
Livening things up with “Seven Days”, PM showed us what he can do when he leaves ballad mode. He’s energetic, fun and with the occasional chuckle he makes his show something to be proud you were at. “Superman” continued the upbeat mood letting PM have a little fun while performing and injecting some of that into each of the 35 or so people listening in awe.
PM seems like a charming man. In between songs he’s just as entertaining as during. He talks and throws out a few little anecdotes, comments on his divorce songs and of course acknowledges those in attendance and particularly those who tip. All around, his show is entertaining.
“Lover Don’t Break” and “Human” continued a set list that was as diverse as the performer. The songs are emotional but that emotion changes with each and probably with the listener as well. I found myself drifting through a number of different ones each drawing on memories stored away.
While he doesn’t do many covers, preferring to perform from his ample selection of originals, he did treat us to a simply stunning version “Born To Run”. Not to knock the Boss, but PM’s version was right up there and if Bruce heard it, I think he’d be amazed as well.
He finished his entertaining show with a couple songs from his latest project “Therapy” leaving us to deal with the emotions brought out of a locked away place. Oh well.
PM Bookmite has a complete package. With an incredible voice accompanied by some damn fine piano performing original songs with a chuckle or a tear, the entertainment value is exceptional and unique. With an amazing array of artists venturing into Second Life®, PM gives you what most would love to, a perfect show. Venture out to see the many artists in Second Life® and if you want to see something hot, check out PM Bookmite. You’ll love it.
