Proving she can rock while still being melodic, Vienna James performed a cross section of tunes at the RumRunner on Sunday.
Vienna opened with Garbage and Duran Duran before launching into Kylie Minoque's "Can't Get You Outta My Head", probably making Kylie wince a little. Vienna's voice is soft and melodic yet she turns it up a notch to cover some raunchier tunes. Following a sweet version of "Hand In My Pocket", she mellowed down on Eva Cassidy's "Songbird" before doing a version of "Wicked Game" that made Chris Isaak seem less sexy. The crowd of about 38 at the RumRunner was vocal and appreciative with Vienna stretching the limits on "Black Horse & The Cherry Tree" followed by Evanescence. Vienna's backing tracks were clear and with the odd glitch, still managed to project a glorious feeling throughout the club. Vienna's voice comes through clearly, strong and powerful at times, but sweet when she needs to be.
Following a more than stellar version of "Angel", Vienna did "6 Underground" by the Sneaker Pimps. An admiral job, I got the feeling Vienna could cover anything. And that she did. Bringing her power to "Big Yellow Taxi" putting me in awe of her talent. And that wasn't quite the end. Closing off with an incredible version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow", put tears in my eyes, and yes I did cry.Vienna's selection for her eleven song set was a fit that truly showcased her talent. She is cool and calm on stage and her banter with the audience is frequent and friendly. Aside from some griefing at the start of the show, a lil too often in sl these days, and the warning about tping into a newer sim version, Vienna was the essence of perfection on an afternoon with a few imperfections.
