Forty-Five people packed Gia’s Fashion Cabaret to watch as Kelvinblue “The Real Deal” Oh was introduced as the last minute replacement act. Dressed in dark clothing and sporting a cowboy hat and boots, this lone rider stepped up when Alex Parsons couldn’t make the gig due to illness, rescuing the girl and literally saving the day.
Kelvinblue (or Kevin as everyone was shouting), has a following that litters the chat box with praise during his performance and it’s well earned. If you like ascii art, his fans are creative. His style is a combination of zydeco, rock and roll and the blues – “Zy-de-Rock”, as quoted from his MySpace page. It’s unique and has a Cajun flavor to it that I liked... real spicy. Remember the last time you walked around with a sound in your head you just couldn’t get it out? Well, with licks like John Lee Hookers “Boom Boom”, you’ll end up like me. I have had the chorus going around in my head since the performance.
The solo act is nothing fancy, an over-the-top electric guitar and a man comfortable with his chords. He makes it all work as he moves from one song to the next, without pause sometimes, which keeps your attention. Personally I would have liked him to chat more with the audience but I was satisfied bobbing my head to the wild ride he was taking me on.
With songs like "What’s Wrong with the Blues", BB Kings "The Thrill is Gone" and a supporting fan base, Kelvinblue has carved a niche for himself within Second Life ®. He is an accomplished musician who knows his style and how to turn a crowd. You can see that music is truly his life and like a true live Super-Hero, he was off to his next concert when the hour was over. I hope that next time I will get a chance to sit down with him and ask some questions. Now if I can just get that song out of my head.
"Boom, boom, boom, boom.
I'm gonna shoot you right down,
Knock you off of your feet,
And take you home with me.
Put you in my house.
Boom, boom, boom, boom."
