SIN RAE "Diva In The Making"

by jenny heying

Looking ever the Diva in her pink and black gown, Sin Rae took the stage at TwoKats Koffee House; the audience in anticipation of the singer billed as a younger version of Whitney. Looking like a Diva is one thing; sounding like a Diva is another. Well put that to rest because with her opening Amy Winehouse number “Back To Black”, she came across strong, vibrant and her voice drifted through an incredible range. Okay this girl has talent.

Following that she let her voice loose on “Fallin” and the comparison to Whitney is evident. Actually I think Sin’s voice is a little stronger and with a slightly hollow background, it made it more unique. On “Rehab”, she continued an amazing vocal presentation imitating Amy enough to get the message but with her own style to it.

Her backing tracks were adequate but slightly tinny however that didn’t matter as her voice was the reason for being here. She also had a slight problem with the endings fading out but she makes up for that starting and during each number. With “Mercy”, she took the song to new depths adding some higher notes but keeping with the melody.

Sin seems poised and reserved between songs, but that adds to the Diva persona. Actually she kind of seems shy or maybe its confidence that needs to be built but that will come. She can certainly belt out the tunes like “Warwick Avenue” and “Syrup and Honey” moving from upbeat to ballad with grace and ease but keeping a voice range that will amaze you.

In between songs, she gets a little repetitious in her comments and at times seems to struggle with what to say. Whether that’s the confidence that comes with performing or not I’m not sure. But confidence aside, her voice is incredible and soothes your ears as you perk them to listen. As seems more the case in Second Life® these days, stream communication problems started up during “I’ll Stand By You” making it difficult at that point but between cuts you could still make out her marvelous voice. Thankfully that lasted for only two songs.

I tend to like Sin’s voice more on the ballads not to take anything away from the more upbeat songs she performs, it’s just my preference.

Unfortunately Sin had another gig to get to and surprisingly she ended her set 40 minutes in and vanished very quickly. Hopefully that can be rectified next time along with her confidence level.

The comparison to Whitney is valid and as a Diva, well maybe Diva in the making, but in all a great voice that over time will be a voice to be coveted.
