One of the nice things about reviewing live performers in second life is when you happen upon someone new to performing in second life. Teleporting by Cuddlers Cove, I caught Addison Nicholls performance. Arriving in Second Life last June, she only recently started to perform live. She should have started sooner.
Addison is a kinda cross between Indigo Girls and Dixie Chicks.
Opening with Colbie Caillet's Bubbly set the tone for what the thirty three people in attendance would hear. Addison has a voice that is clear and strong and if she was nervous like she said she was, it didn't show. She came across with confidence and her vocals were a pleasure to listen to.
She hails from Rhode Island, and I'm not sure what that has to do with anything lol, but she mentions it and I guess talented people come from there as well as anywhere else.
Following up her opening number, Ms Nicholls unleashed stellar versions of Least Complicated and Hey There Delilah. But probably the most impressive for me was Lisa Loeb's Stay. Here Addy really showed her vocal talent. I know, I know, I'd probably love anyone that does Lisa Loeb well, but Addy truly was amazing singing it.
One of the nice parts about live singers in second life compared to recorded music is the banter. Addison seems to love to talk and spends a fair bit of time between songs chatting to the crowd. It's always nice to be recognized by the performers and it makes those listening feel a bigger part of what is happening.
Performing Galileo brought chills to me as it really did sound amazingly like the Indigo Girls. That's a good thing here as we aren't necessarily looking for originality but fun, and if a performer can pull off a cover completely, then fine. Addison does just that with every cover she does. She sounds amazingly like the original performer, yet at the same time you can tell it's not.
Addison Nicholls is a pleasure to listen to. Being new is not a crime, it's a blessing. Second Life is full of musicians these days, but it's never a bad thing to add more. Sounding more like the Dixie Chicks, she covers Travelling Soldier as well as I've heard it.
She may be new to performing, but Addison will eventually be a veteran.
