CELTICMAIDENWARRIOR LANCASTER “Welsh Songbird”

by trella mcmahon

From time to time being of Welsh dna, I feel I have to get a bit back in touch with my roots. Being a reporter affords me the ability to do just that from time to time. This evening I scooted out across the wide grid to the Drunken Drow in Alurel, a wonderful place in world to do the above. It's warm, inviting, laid back, chipper, and has all the old world theme to make any Irish/Welsh or wish to be Irish or Welsh DNA tingle in reality.

This night I was honored to catch a young lass taking on the stage and pub crowd by the in world name of CelticmaidenWarrior Lancaster. Aye a mouthful I know and thought me self, but knowing certain aspects of my homeland, understood her name meaning and was in hopes of hearing those string of names she went by to be reality in her song. There were a few bumbly starts due to technical issues with the stream beyond any world live artist's control, which I never pay too much mind to, knowing so well how the in world can be when we are in need of it performing the most.

She set out down the vocal song trail with Say That You Love Me, and me ears pricked at the ability she had in owning the song and notes. She settled right on into the saddle with Poncho & Lefty by Willy Nelson, me being also a real life lady living in the west, my other ear pricked and my toes tapped in the rhythm as I sung at home with her, my version of course far off key, hers nailing each note in perfect time.

She switched gears to Roy Orbison's California Blue, and mastered it as a true song bird should. She handled My Love with the ability of one who does this sweet artistic blessed work in song as a profession. My ears were over joyed but my Welsh rooted DNA was beginning to feel a bit left out when she moved on to The Highwayman.

Now I had great doubt even though she had proven her singing ability as well scoop to me with the songs I had heard her just master when she said she was going to attempt to do the Highwayman in song. For those of you who don't know there are songs one does and songs one does not do live and to try this one takes guts and a wee bit of old world's luck. It is a very long tune, a ballad if you may, as in 3-4 pages in lyrical word, and only mastered by those of the bravest heart in any live event. Then to say you will do it in world with the issues we may have from time to time, well now lasses and lads I was more then glued to the screen and on the edge of my seat. My heart raced for her, I even prayed as well sweated over each word for her. Alas she not only mastered this fine tune she had me in physical tears of joy and I sat in disbelief at the smoothness she carried it all off. I was to say the least stunned. She picked up the accent of the old world and carried it through to the very last word in verse, Aye a treat beyond words to my soul.

Then this fine lass moved on swiftly to SHULE AGRA, (also called JOHNNY HAS GONE FOR A SOLDIER), well now my Welsh DNA roots charged together in tremendous joy and and she brought flowing tears running fully down both me cheeks as I sang along, with her crispness of vocals, dead on-ness of lyric, timing and rhythm she nailed that fine one too. This lass has a scoop that is such a rare find in the in world live music scene, and a sweetness of personality that comes fully through the monitor and reaches each heart of her audience. I say thanks to the saints we have her with us in world, welcome to the in world of live music CelticmaidenWarrior Lancaster. You can be betting I will see her again and again to refresh my Celtic spirit as well as any other DNA I have running through my real skin. I do hope you take the opportunity to as well.
