The times they are a changing. Well with Second Life® music anyway. There is a new influx of musicians taking to the stage, you know, the kind that play instruments instead of singing along to a pre-recorded track.
Steven Moorhen is one of those new breed of musicians. No backing tracks for this fellow. Taking to the stage at Cuddler’s Cove with his acoustic guitar and voice, he played to win you over.
Steven is not new to Second Life® (Oct/06) but is new to streaming. It doesn't show however. Opening with a strong cover of Stone Temple Pilots, Steven is putting his mark on the music scene. He is strong on the guitar and seldom takes a break, even between songs. I guess he just loves it that much. The Georgia native looks and sounds comfortable on stage.
And don't try and stick him to a specific genre. He won't stay there. While he sounds perfectly raw with Alice in Chains, Three Doors Down and Nine Inch Nails he flips to Van Halen and then on to Radiohead. He even lists Chris Issac in his song list, and did a crazy version of Wicked Game near the end of his set. He did however cover Theory of A Deadman, Foo Fighters and Smashing Pumpkins.
Steven is a fairly good singer, not great, but good. He is amazing with the guitar. While some are content to strum along while they sing, Steven actually plays.
He knows his guitar very well and his guitar knows him. It's where the real story lies with his songs.
While words may tell a story, Steven Moorhen's guitar gives you the whole book. You might think you'd miss something without drums and bass, but don't even notice. His guitar is the center of attention and Steven hops along for the ride. You'll be riding along as well.
Banter? You bet. This boy likes to gab, chatting away between songs while his guitar accompanies him in his quest to communicate with his audience. It works well.
Second Life® events are supposed to be fun and Steven brings a whole lot of it to his shows. You'll find yourself bouncing along and letting you mouth drop while he and his guitar drive you through his repertoire. They have fun together and probably would even if we weren't there to be entertained. He seems to enjoy it that much.
So while a lot of Second Life® musicians go about their merry way with backing tracks and the same old standards, a new breed of artist is attempting to claim the stages. Steven Moorhen will be one of them.

I attended Steve's performance and was very impressed. His style and voice kept my attention and I realy enjoyed listening to him. I look forward to hearing more from Steve and suggest you catch his performance.
