BRENT RENARD "Not Your Average Sl Performer"

by julieanne rau

In today’s world of rock and country I decided that Thump Magazine needed to see all types of music and this week I noticed that Brent Renard was performing at BoSamba’s. He is the only opera singer in Second Life® who often performs live concerts with a didactid and education orientation. He stages and directs his own compositions and with 15 years experience in opera, has a clear and commanding voice.

OPERA JOVEN was founded in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico in 1999. It is legally constituted and recognized by the Mexican Government as a non-profit civil association. Its funds are formed mostly from donations. It is within this context that Brent sings his all-Spanish compositions.

.
His 10 songs drew, at the maximum count, 18 people to the venue. Personally I was shocked to see opera alive and well in Second Life®. A new branch of music I personally have not been able to fully appreciate.
In Quegl'Anni In Cui Val Poco, from the opera Le Nozze di Figaro, by W.A. Mozart
Intorno all'idol mio, from the opera Orontea, P.A. Cesti
Sì dolce è'l tormento by C. Monteverdi
Già il sole dal Gange by A. Scarlatti
Chi perde un momento from the opera Giulio Cesare, G.F. Handel
Domerò la tua fierezza from the opera Giulio Cesare, G.F. Handel
Tho' the Honours, from the oratorio Theodora, by G.F. Handel
Che farò senza Euridice from the opera Orfeo ed Euridice, C.W. Glück
Saper bramate from the opera Il barbiere di Siviglia, by G. Paisiello
Nel cor più non mi sento from the opera La Molinara, by G. Paisiello
.
His English is a bit broken, but very charming, as he describes each arias. I originally thought he was saying area but with help I soon discovered arias was NOT some part of Mexico. Brent makes Opera fun and romantic as he describes each song. His system is clear with the accompaniment of background music to each opera.
.
The crowd is much different from the usual concert that I attend. I don’t want to say more respectful but maybe more attentive. There are no hoots or shouts and text art. A simple Bravo accompanied by loud applause breaks the silence of his performance.
.
It is truly a unique experience and I would encourage move with adventure to attempt to attend his next performance May 10th, 2009 at the "Mexican Fair of Traditional Handcraft" at 4am SLT. Place: Opera Joven, 133, 161, 22 Enjoy, I did! Look at this web page for more detailshttp://www.operajoven.com
